Synopsis
Before the war, Marina was a Stalker, a person who illegally enters the Exclusion Zone established after the Chernobyl accident in 1986. Her purpose was to engage with the Zone as though it were a living organism, capable of perceiving her thoughts and responding to them. However, Marina’s stalker days are over. She is currently married to Zhenya and resides in Poltava, Ukraine, amidst ongoing warfare.
The couple works at a factory, earning a meagre income. Marina finds no purpose or fulfilment, and communication with Zhenya is strained as she shields herself from opening up about her inner struggles.
Amidst of this bleak existence, Marina dreams of the Zone. Amidst of this bleak existence, Marina dreams of the Zone. In the Marina embodies beauty and perfection, experiencing incredible adventures beyond imagination.
But after each dream, Marina is forced to return to her harsh reality in war-torn Ukraine. She attempts to distract herself by engaging in various hobbies, such as making jewelry and practicing pilates. However, she quickly loses interest in these endeavours.
At night Marina’s expedition through the Zone is akin to navigating a complex labyrinth filled with mysteries and difficult tasks. Each time she awakens in Ukraine, Marina’s dreams abruptly halt at critical junctures, right in the midst of a trial.
Now, Marina’s actions and thoughts in the militarized life of Poltava determine her ability to overcome the tests within the Zone. She tries to open up to Zhenya and forge a new understanding of their relationship. Marina understands that she has to find the meteorite in order to find happiness, a home and true love. But as she delves deeper into her inner self, shaped by society’s desires, she begins to doubt the necessity of these desires. With the help of the Zone, she finally uncovers her true self.

Production stage
Myth Zone was developed in 2019 – 2023, interrupted by Corona, by the French production company Les Steps and the Belarusian production company An DA Film. The development was financed with the help of the French film funding CNC and SCAM. Several scenes with Marina could be shot in the “Zone” in 2021. It is planned to continue production in Ukraine in 2024. The production is supported by the Berlinale World Cinema Fund and will be presented at the Berlinale Co Pro Market 2024. Release is expected in early 2025.

Daria Yurkevich ist eine belarussische Regisseurin, Drehbuchautorin und Produzentin. Sie nahm an zahlreichen Filmworkshops wie ExOriente, B2B Doc und East Talent Lab sowie an Film-Pitch-Wettbewerben in Cannes, Prag, Wiesbaden, Tiflis und Eriwan teil.
Zu Darias bemerkenswerten Erfolgen gehört die Premiere ihres Dokumentarfilms “Invisible Paradise” bei Visions du Réel 2020 in der Schweiz.
Daria Yurkevich erhielt 2021 das prestigeträchtige Gaude Polonia-Stipendium unter der Leitung des renommierten polnischen Regisseurs Marcel Lozinski, einem Oscar-nominierten Filmemacher.
